Monday, August 11th
Today is week 8 since Dave's accident. We are so thankful our Lord has been by Dave's side through all of this and brought him this far! Dave's white blood count is 14,600, up from Saturday. Dave still doesn't have a temperature, PTL!!! Dave walked 200 feet this morning and 50 feet this afternoon (both with the walker)! Dave has hardly had the hiccups today, PTL, and no breathing episodes!!!!!!!! Still no talk of dialysis! It's been a week since his last dialysis treatment. Dave went outside again this afternoon and enjoyed the great outdoors, what a beautiful August day, not too hot or humid! Please pray for Dave's malnutrition as this continues to be a problem.

2 things:
Marinol to stimulate his appetite. You can ask his Drs. about it. It was very successful in helping Dad begin to eat again. He was on it for about 6 weeks total and had no problems getting off of it. They use it a lot in patients with cancer to help stimulate their appetites. Even though Dave and Dad don't have cancer, it is something you might want to ask about b/c of how good it helps. It is also very effective with pain control as well.Again, TPN takes makes you feel full and then you have no desire to eat at all. Don't be afraid of that.
2. ENSURE protein drinks. They taste pretty bla warm, but if he likes shakes, ask for a cup of vanilla ice cream and a can of choc. of strawberry Ensure...and whip him up a little shake! Very nutritious and fun too!
His appetite WILL return...I'm praying for sooner rather than later! I know how scary that can be, but God has made our bodies very amazing! Just don't let them do non-emergency surgery for a long while b/c wound healing can be extremely slow, if just not at all right now. Dad's albumin went down to 1.2 at one point!
Sounds like hes really making headway now! PRAISE THE LORD!
We praise the Lord for so many answers to prayer. We know He is faithful, but when we actually see and hear about what He has done, we can continue to trust Him for malnutrition and hiccups. Have a great week! More fresh air and walks are surely "what the doctor has ordered."
We continue to rejoice for the great news and pray for complete healing. I understand the chocolate is a food group and how could anyone resist that! :)

We're continuing to pray for a full recovery! It was good to see you all last week. Also, just wanted to let you know how nice Nate looked Saturday in his tux for the wedding. I hope someone got a picture of him so you can see!

Hey Carpenter's, Andy Bretz here. Just wanted to let you know that I have been following Dave's progress since you began the blog. I've certainly been praying for you all in what I know has been a very long and trying time.
I really can't believe it has been 8 weeks, but I'm sure to you it seems like so much longer! I will continue to pray that Dave continues to improve, and that you all are able to endure!
Thanks so much for your efforts in keeping us all informed, helps us to know how to pray, and reminds us of how God works in our lives each day! Take care and be strong.
