Morning update: Dave's white blood count is at 50,000. His temperature is 99.1!!!! Dave sat up for the first time in a chair! He was able to sit for 2 1/2 hours. This made him very tired but he said it was encouraging to him to be able to sit up. They are going to start SLED (slow dialysis) late this afternoon. Dr Jawa was in and said they need to remove the PICC line (for IV fluids) from Dave's left arm as it has been in too long. Dave has quit using his left arm because of the line, but hasn't complained of any pain in the arm. Dave has had the hiccups for over 2 hours now. Dr Jawa wants to put a central line in to replace the PICC line but due to Dave's hiccups putting a central line in is too dangerous. (Dave had a central line prior to the PICC line.) They discussed moving the PICC line from his left arm over to his right arm but they would like to save his veins for future dialysis needs. Please pray Dave's hiccups would stop so they can put in a central line. Thank you for your prayers!
Evening update: Over the course of the afternoon, the doctors determined that the PICC line was infected. They also think that Dave's left arm (the one with the PICC line) may have a blood clot. Dave had an ultrasound of his arm to determine if indeed he has a blood clot and the size and location of the clot. We have not received any results yet. The doctors said that regardless if he has a clot or not, the PICC line must come out. They removed the PICC line. They are temporarily using the same catheter that they use for dialysis to give Dave his IV. Please pray for wisdom for the doctors as they make decisions about the possible blood clot and also as they decide where to relocate the PICC line. Please continue to pray for Dave, it is 10:15pm and he still has the hiccups.

It is very exciting to read Dave spent that long sitting in the chair, and very encouraging to see bit by bit and day by day his strength being built back up.
Reading the postings from you, his family, and then the postings from all the family and friends from near and far is so encouraging and makes our prayers up the to the minute revelant to Dave's needs.
Though our faithful bloggers, Jiree and Traci, do not mention the needs of Diane, themselves, Nate and Brad and others that are there almost daily, we know those needs exist and continue to uplift each of you in prayer as well. We pray for safe commuting for Brad, Traci and Nate and other close friends and family as they travel back and forth to Lincoln for work each day, and strength and endurance for all of you as you are there daily assisting Dave, encouraging him and providing physical, spirtual and emotional support. The highs and lows you all experience hour by hour and day by day take their toll on each of you just as they do Dave, and we pray for God's continued strength, for patience, and for a sense of peace only the Lord can blanket over all of you as you hang onto His perfect timing, and His perfect will for Dave through all this. I know it is easy to type these things, it is so much harder to be there each day and to not become overwhelmed with it all. Many have told you in person and in postings, and it bears repeating again... this blog, your witness as you go through this, and Dave's incredible strength and determination are an inspiration to each of us and to people you do not even know. God's being glorified in ways we cannot see or imagine, and while that does not take away your need for rest, or your frustration when things don't go so well, it is a huge reason to praise God, He is at work through all this, in unseen and seen ways.
We love you all, and will be here cheering you on, helping in anyway possible, and praying many prayers as long as you need it.
Love,
Mike and Jeanie

To Dave and all who love him,
We will continue to P.U.S.H. (Pray Until Something Happens). Sorry to hear there has been a delay putting this needed central line in due to the hiccups; we are praying they cease immediately.......if, in fact, that prayer concern has not already been answered.
Super news to hear you sat up for such a long period of time; assuredly, you were tired. It shows your determination to do what is necessary to stay focused on your recovery and relying on Jesus for the strength you need just when the timing is right.
In case your girls didn't 'brag on themselves' and because I know that isn't their nature; I must tell you how we got the story (we couldn't be at the game) about the Co-ed Softball team WIN last Friday night, July 11, 2008. It went blah, blah, blah and then just when it looked like they would lose in the bottom of the 7th; Traci was up to bat and she brought the winning score in. The last sentence we heard on the subject went close to this; really Jiree and Traci helped win that game. You taught them well Coach Dave (Life Coach Dad); to give it their all.
We will all stand with you and your family through every moment of your recovery; praying all the way.

Sitting up is a good start...PTL!! We are so thankful to the Lord for His faithfulness to you and giving you baby steps to feel better.
In His Grace,

We are so excited to see God answering prayer and giving Dave the strength to sit up for so long. We have observed all of you and your testimony for Christ is a beacon in the darkness. We praise God for the grace He has given you as you walk one step at a time through this time in your lives. Please know that many, many saints are lifting you up hourly and will continue to do so. Love to all, Brad & Jackie
Jeanie said it all so well. Yes, we continue to appreciate your blog so much and continue to lift you all up to our awesome God each time we read it. Thanks for all your efforts and for your faithful witness to all those around you.
It is encouraging to see Dave making progress. I like how Gary and Joyce used the initials P.U.S.H. That is what so many are doing across the nation for Dave and the family.
On another note...about the softball game. Dave is a great coach and player but let's not forget they are half Sejkora! What a great combination
Carpenter/Sejkora!
Penne (Sejkora) Hanus
Praising God for the day by day progress. Always! With much love and prayers! xoxoxo
The Ver Schuer's :-)
I am praying for David, and all the family.May God give you comfort. In Christ Carolyn Gillispie
Dad went through a couple pic lines and a subclavian as well. He developed a DVT in his right arm and they put him on blood thinners. If he has one, it should resolve on it's own but the Lovonox will keep Dave from developing more. We will continue to pray for wisdom for the doctors. These days are long for all of you...may you experience the peace that only Christ gives at times like these. Somedays it'll just seem like it's too much, yet we rest under HIS wings!
Hiccups for that long have to be un-nerving! When the diaphragm gets messed with, hiccups are common. Knowing that doesn't help matters though...so we'll be praying for that as well!
HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY MORNING...GREAT IS HIS FAITHFULNESS!
